This 18" gate valve was supplied in Ferralium® 255 (UNS S32550, Alloy 255, DIN 1.4507, ASTM F61), one of a large number of Ferralium® 255 valves supplied to a new overseas plant for sulphuric acid service.
Sulphuric acid is a basic raw material of the chemical industry, used across an extensive variety of processes. Resistance to corrosion by the varying acid concentrations and process temperatures is a widespread need.
Ferralium® 255 has consistently proved an extremely good material both in the production of sulphuric acid itself and in the many chemical processes that use it, thanks to its corrosion resistance across a wide range of conditions.
The use of Langley valves in Ferralium® 255 for sulphuric acid plants is now well established. They are increasingly specified both for new plants and as replacements for existing valves in older installations.
