A group of nozzles made from Ferralium® 255 super duplex stainless steel was supplied for a phosphate fertilizer plant. The nozzles are used in the final stages of acid handling, prior to compounding of the fertilizer.
Ferralium® 255 has excellent resistance to the conditions found in making 'wet process' phosphoric acid, and in many cases outlasts not only standard stainless steel but also high nickel alloys.
These nozzles show the practical versatility of Ferralium® 255 (UNS S32550, Alloy 255, DIN 1.4507, ASTM F61). Each is fabricated from two flanges made as castings, with the nozzle tube rolled up from 1/8" thick rolled plate. Ferralium® 255 can be processed into all types of finished equipment by normal methods.
