These flanged pipes, cast in Ferralium® 255 super duplex stainless steel (UNS S32550, Alloy 255, DIN 1.4507, ASTM F61), form part of a submersible pump assembly used to produce phosphoric acid by the "wet process". Each casting weighs 224lb.
Phosphoric acid is one of the most corrosive elements in fertiliser production, and Ferralium® 255 is one of the most successful and widely used materials resistant to its corrosive effects.
