Nuclear Packaging, A Pacific Nuclear Systems Company, selected Ferralium® 255 for its 'Enviralloy' high-integrity containers used to process and bury radioactive waste. The duplex alloy meets the stringent requirements of 10 CFR 61 waste stability and the burial criteria of Washington and South Carolina.
A 25-foot drop test determined the containers' suitability. If a container lost any of its contents, or even developed hairline cracks, it would fail. The container shown here - a 210 cubic foot Ferralium® 255 unit - was loaded with 10 tons of sand and dropped, passing the test.
