Ferralium® 255 has been used in a number of parts in UK-manufactured hovercraft. From the mid-1970s onwards it has been the alloy of choice for propellers, propeller nuts and washers, and rudders in a vessel operated by the National Maritime Institute.
The fasteners replaced Alloy 316 components that had completely corroded after just one year in service, resulting in the loss of one propeller.
