Ferralium® 255-SD50 is the super duplex stainless steel Conval specifies for the critical seat, stem and gland components of its Clampseal valves, where high erosion and corrosion resistance are essential.
Conval is a leading supplier of valves for the world's most demanding applications. Based in Connecticut, USA, it makes high-pressure, high-temperature ball, bellows, check, gate, globe, throttling and urea service valves.
The Clampseal valve
The Clampseal valve is an ingeniously simple design: the basic valve has only nine components. It is lightweight, tough and durable, and much easier to renew than any other globe valve on the market. Unlike most welded-in valves, Clampseal valves do not need to be cut out for inspection or servicing.
They offer in-line renewal, so they can be inspected or maintained without cutting them from the system. A secure, leak-proof bonnet gives rapid access to the valve trim, delivering the shortest downtime and lowest life-cycle costs in the industry. A complete service - a reground seat, new packing or a stem replacement - can often be done in less than thirty minutes.
Urea service
Clampseal urea service valves are designed for the high-pressure piping of urea reactors, strippers and condensers, where they are exposed to urea process fluids, nitric acid or ammonium carbonate. A pressure-actuated backseat provides a positive internal stop for the valve stem and disc assembly, ensuring valve integrity. They are available in three formats (Y, T and Angle) with a high degree of interchangeability between the key components.
Why Ferralium® 255-SD50
Ferralium® 255-SD50 is used in the critical seat, stem and gland components, where high erosion resistance is required. This super duplex stainless steel provides superior erosion resistance and excellent corrosion resistance in the acids and chemicals associated with urea manufacture. As a result, several leading equipment design authorities identify it as a preferred alloy specification for valves and pumps in these processes.
