Zeron 100® is a 25% chromium super duplex stainless steel, more widely known as Alloy 32760 (UNS S32760, 1.4501, F55). It was developed in the 1980s by Mather & Platt as an alternative to the first super duplex stainless steel, our Ferralium® 255, which we invented in 1967.
Mather & Platt was a UK company based in Manchester that manufactured large-scale centrifugal pumps. Super duplex stainless steel was an obvious fit for pump bodies handling aggressive solutions, where corrosion resistance, strength and wear resistance all matter, so the team worked to optimise ease of casting and long-term performance for their more demanding applications.
The pump division was later acquired by Weir Pumps, though the Manchester site and foundry closed. The Zeron 100 trademark is now held by Rolled Alloys Inc.
Like other super duplex grades, Alloy 32760 uses a 25% chromium content, but it also includes a deliberate addition of tungsten, claimed to selectively improve corrosion resistance.
We stock Alloy 32760 from 1/2" to 16" diameter in solid bars, plus plate up to 2 1/2" thickness.
