HVD-1 is a trademark of Gustav Grimm Edelstahlwerk for a super duplex stainless steel. Its composition - Cr 24.0-28.0%, Ni 2.0-3.0%, Mo 7.5-9.5%, Cu 1.0-2.0% - is similar to that of Ferralium® 255.
HVD-1 is often specified by OEMs building valves, pumps and other process equipment for urea and fertiliser production. Those OEMs typically supply items for plants designed by licence holders such as Stamicarbon, Snamprogetti, Thyssenkrupp and Toyo. The specifications of these licence holders often allow a choice of metals including Ferralium® 255, which performs well in fertiliser production thanks to its excellent resistance to acids.

Ferralium® 255
Ferralium® 255 (UNS S32550, DIN 1.4507, F61) is the original super duplex stainless steel (SDSS), developed by Langley Alloys in the 1960s. It is still the only super duplex to provide a yield strength >85ksi, while its increased copper content (2%) gives greater resistance to acids.
We carry an extensive stock of Ferralium® 255, with bar up to 16" (406.4mm) diameter, plate up to 3" (76.2mm) thickness, and a variety of pipes and fittings available for immediate delivery from our warehouses in the UK and USA.
