Using Ferralium® 255 as the benchmark alloy, this paper shows pitting initiating at temperatures well above the normally quoted Critical Pitting Temperature.

The work develops a novel technique for studying the pitting behaviour of alloys in saltwater. It allows surface pitting to be created and observed as it develops, within a rapid testing and evaluation method.
