We supply stainless steel hollow bars in two enhanced-machinability grades: Sanmac 316L and Sanmac 2205. Both are produced by Alleima and give machinists an alternative to solid bar.

Hollow bar is one of our newer product lines, added as we continue to develop the UK market alongside Alleima.

Sanmac 316L

Sanmac 316L pairs the corrosion resistance of a molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel with improved machinability. The molybdenum addition gives better corrosion resistance than grades such as Alloy 304, while controlled chip formation and reduced tool wear raise machining productivity and lower tool costs.

Typical applications:

  • Machined parts for tube and pipe fittings
  • Woven screens for the mining industry
  • Oil and gas piping, pumps, valves, fittings and marine architecture
  • Process equipment in chemical containers, transport units, heat exchangers, and organic and fatty acid production

Sanmac 2205

Sanmac 2205 duplex stainless steel is supplied in the solution annealed condition, with improved machinability as standard. Its corrosion resistance suits environments containing chlorides and hydrogen sulphide, including sour-well oil and gas extraction, refineries, and process solutions contaminated with chlorides.

  • Process components in sulphuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, ethylene oxide, polypropylene and PVC production
  • Equipment handling organic and fatty acids, chemical storage, tankers and heat exchangers
  • Oil and chemical tankers
  • Oil and gas pumps, valves, pipe, vessels, wellhead equipment, subsea equipment, separators and heat exchangers
  • Wastewater treatment and sour water purification
  • Pollution control systems, effluent scrubbing and flue gas desulphurisation (FGD)
  • Food industry uses including brewery piping, evaporators, hot liquor tanks and presses
  • Pulp and paper uses such as pulp liquor heaters, bleach tower linings, digesters and brownstock washers
  • Marine and shipbuilding propellers, shafts, rudders, shaft seals, pumps, bolts, fasteners, valves and instrumentation
