Duplex and super duplex stainless steels combine high yield strength with excellent corrosion resistance, and they resist stress corrosion cracking where standard stainless steels can fail. We invented the first super duplex grade and supply the most complete range of these alloys.

Where duplex and super duplex are used

These grades are now widely accepted across oil and gas, chemical processing, marine, flue gas desulphurisation, mining and fertiliser production, as well as in pump, valve and fastener components. They provide high yield strength, good impact strength and excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of media.

Duplex stainless steels can be confidently specified between -50degC and +250degC, resist stress corrosion cracking, and offer strong cost competitiveness against more expensive alloys. Although more challenging to handle than standard stainless steels, they machine, fabricate and weld well with the correct tooling and procedures.

Our range

We specialise in supplying duplex and super duplex stainless steels. We invented the first super duplex stainless steel, Ferralium® 255 (F61, UNS S32550, 1.4507), more than 50 years ago, and have supported the market ever since.

As Alleima's preferred partner in the UK and North America, we carry their full range of duplex and super duplex grades, including selected sizes as hollow bar:

Stock range

In solid bar, our standard stock runs from 1/2" (12.7mm) to 16" (406.2mm) diameter, with up to 40 different sizes available ex-stock so customers can start machining from the most convenient, cost-effective size. In duplex and super duplex plate, we stock up to 3" thickness from our USA warehouse. We also hold selected sizes of pipe, flanges and fittings, and can assemble complete pipework packages.
