CS57 - Hiduron 191 - Tail Shafts

The largest forging so far produced in Hiduron® 191 has been supplied to a Midlands engineering firm, to be machined into tail shafts for a vessel with special marine duties.

Langley aluminium-bronzes are used extensively in marine applications for their resistance to corrosion in seawater. For this project the more recently developed Hiduron® 191 (UNS C72420, NES 835, DEF STAN 02-835) was specified for its improved ductility and corrosion resistance, which met the exacting requirements.

Each forging is 7" in diameter and 15.6" long and weighs nearly one ton. Finish machined, each shaft measures 6.25" diameter and 13.9" long.

The Hiduron® range is an example of a complex alloy developed at Langley to anticipate the needs of an increasingly technological age.
