CS43 - Hiduron 130 - Subsea Connectors

Hiduron® 130 was selected for proof-machined subsea connector components produced for a leading oil and gas major operating in the Brazilian field, chosen for its high strength, galling and wear resistance, and ease of machining.

The components

Hiduron® 130 blanks were supplied at 6" (152.4mm) diameter, which Vama Industrial transformed into semi-finished parts ahead of final machining and assembly.

Vama Industrial began operations in September 1988 providing small machining services, and today focuses on tooling and technical machining. Since 1995 the company has invested in specialised machinery and measuring equipment, performing high-precision technical machining for the oil and gas industry - milling parts up to 15 tons. They operate from a purpose-built facility of 3,5000m², with more than 100 employees and 18,000hrs of monthly machining time to support the largest projects.

Why Hiduron® 130

Hiduron® 130 was selected for its unique combination of properties:

  • one of the highest-strength copper alloys available (apart from CuBe), comparable with 22%Cr stainless steels
  • excellent galling and wear resistance, ideal for connectors that may operate for extended periods before disconnection is required
  • highly resistant to marine biofouling
  • ease of machining
  • low magnetic permeability

It continues to be specified by leading manufacturers for demanding applications such as this.
