Aerospace components are selected for a demanding combination of high strength, reliable performance at temperature, and complete traceability against recognised specifications. Langley Alloys supplies nickel, precipitation-hardening stainless and high-strength copper grades used in engine, landing gear and bearing applications, supplied with full documentation.

High-strength, high-temperature nickel alloys

Alloy 718 is one of the most widely used aerospace alloys, retaining high strength and corrosion resistance from cryogenic temperatures up to around 750°C. It is specified for engine components, landing gear, actuators and fasteners, where its strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking are essential.

Precipitation-hardening stainless

17-4 PH is a martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel that achieves higher strength than most other stainless grades, while retaining strength and toughness at temperatures up to 316°C. Its eight defined heat-treatment conditions allow properties to be tailored precisely to the component, and it is machined easily in the annealed condition before final age hardening. Aerospace applications include landing gear and turbine blades.

Copper alloys for bearings and connectors

The high-strength copper alloys serve specialised aerospace roles. Hidurel® 5 is used for aerospace engine bearing cages and undercarriage components, and meets the aerospace specification BS 2B25/B25. Hiduron® 130 is used for aerospace landing bearings and flight refuelling connectors, drawing on its combination of strength, wear resistance and freedom from hydrogen embrittlement.

Traceability and approvals

Aerospace supply depends as much on documentation and approvals as on the material itself. Langley Alloys holds EN 9100 (AS9100) aerospace quality certification and is a registered supplier on JOSCAR, the aerospace and defence supplier accreditation register, supplying material with full traceability and certification against aerospace specifications.
