Inconel is a family of nickel-based alloys, alloyed primarily with chromium, used where components must keep their strength and resist corrosion at high temperature. There are around twenty grades in the family, but Inconel 718 and Inconel 625 are the most widely known and used.

Where Inconel is used

  • Aerospace. Gas turbine engines, combustion chambers, exhaust systems and structural components, where high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance are essential.
  • Chemical processing. Reactors, heat exchangers and valves, thanks to excellent resistance to a wide range of acids and alkalis.
  • Power generation. Gas turbines, steam turbines and boiler systems, for high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance and creep resistance.
  • Oil and gas. Downhole tools, wellhead equipment and piping exposed to high-pressure, high-temperature and corrosive conditions.
  • Marine. Exhaust systems, seawater piping and offshore equipment, for resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater.
  • Nuclear. Reactor-core components, fuel-handling systems and waste-processing equipment, for resistance to high temperatures and corrosion.
  • Automotive. Exhaust systems, turbochargers and high-performance engine components, for high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance.

Langley Alloys carries stock of Alloy 718 and Alloy 625 up to 10” (254mm) diameter, and Alloy 725 up to 4” (101.6mm) diameter.
