This paper reviews the resistance of Ferralium® 255 (UNS S32550) to corrosion in sulphuric acid and chloride-containing media. It examines the benefits of copper and nitrogen additions and proposes reducing the weighting given to molybdenum in the pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) when assessing performance in sulphuric acid.
