Frequently asked questions
What are brasses made of?
Brasses are copper-based alloys with additions of zinc as the main alloying element. They are typically very formable and bright yellow in appearance, which is why their most common applications are decorative items and domestic hardware such as fittings, rather than demanding industrial or corrosion-resistant applications.
How do brasses compare with the corrosion-resistant alloys Langley Alloys stocks?
Brasses are less widely used in industrial applications than the duplex, super duplex, nickel and copper-nickel alloys Langley Alloys supplies, which are chosen specifically for strength and corrosion resistance in demanding environments. Further alloying can improve brasses' mechanical and physical properties, but this does not extend their use into Langley Alloys' core markets.
Does Langley Alloys stock brass?
No. Langley Alloys does not stock any brasses. Its stock range instead focuses on higher-performance corrosion- and wear-resistant alloys, including duplex and super duplex stainless steels, nickel alloys, and copper alloys such as Hidurel and the Hiduron range, which suit far more demanding applications than brass.
