CS123 – Hiduron 191 – Couplings

Description:

High integrity tube couplings are required in a wide range of demanding applications. The illustration shows a group of couplings designed and marketed by Lucas Fluid Power, many of these being made in HIDURON 191 perfectly suit the requirements of excellent corrosion resistance in seawater together with high strength. A further feature of HIDURON 191 (UNS C72420, NES 835, DEF STAN 02-835) is low magnetic permeability, and this is utilised is couplings in mine counter-measure vessels, these vessels being constructed with materials of low magnetic permeability to minimise the risk from magnetic mines.

Couplings in HIDURON 191 have also been installed on some of the Thames tributary barriers now in service to protect the Southeast of England against the dangers of tidal flooding. This combination provides an ideal solution in this environment where a minimum working lifetime in the order of 20 years is expected.

The excellent combination of strength and toughness of HIDURON 191 as compared with aluminium bronzes, combined with high corrosion resistance leads to the use of the alloy in a wide variety of other marine engineering applications, including pump shafting, control elements on submarines and fastenings for cupronickel and bronze pipework systems on offshore platforms.
