Flanges are available in many different configurations and can be readily sourced and produced by Langley Alloys to meet your project requirements. Flanges are used to connect between pipes, valves, pumps and any other flow control items. They are joined to the individual item by welding or screw fixing, and then mating flanges can be bolted together with a gasket in between to form a seal.
A weld neck (WN) flange has a long, tapered hub stounding proud of the flange face itself. It is normally welded to the end of a pipe in high-pressure applications, as the bore of the flange matches that of the pipe and so results in negligible flow disruption or pressure drop.
As the name suggests, a slip on (SO) flange passes over the end of the pipe and is joined by fillet welds on the inside and outside surfaces. They are much simpler in form than a weld neck as there is no long hub present.
Threaded (SCRD) flanges, Socket Weld (SW) flanges and Lap Joint flanges are all variations on the slip on flange, with subtle variations as to how they are joined to the pipe end. A threaded flange is self-evident, a socket weld flange only needs welding on the outer side of the flange, whilst a lap joint flange fits over stub ends.
A blind flange does not have a central bore and so is used to ‘blind’ or ‘blank’ off a pipe. It can be simply removed to allow access to the pipe section for inspection or sampling purposes.
