SAF32760 is a registered trademark of Sandvik Intellectual Property AB. SAF is an acronym of Sandvik Austenitic Ferritic, with Austenitic Ferritic meaning it’s a super duplex stainless steel grade with a balanced microstructure. This balanced microstructure imparts the favourable properties of super duplex stainless steels, namely high-strength, excellent corrosion resistance and good impact properties. It contains deliberate additions of both copper and tungsten content, compared with S32750. Tungsten is sometimes included within the formula that calculates the Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN), suggesting it has a positive effect on resistance to pitting corrosion.
SAFS32760 (UNS S32760, DIN 1.4501, ASTM F55) was originally developed as Zeron 100 by the UK company Mather & Platt in the 1970s. Mather & Platt was a UK-based company, hailing from Manchester, focused on the manufacturing of large-scale centrifugal pumps. The use of super duplex stainless steels for such applications was obvious, given the potentially aggressive solutions being handled, requiring significant corrosion resistance, strength and wear resistance. Hence, the team at Mather & Platt sought to optimise ease of casting and long-term performance of their pump bodies for more demanding applications. The pump division of Mather & Platt was subsequently acquired by Weir Pumps, although the Manchester site and foundry closed. The Zeron 100 trademark is now held by Rolled Alloys Inc.
Langley Alloys is a preferred distribution partner of Alleima and carries an extensive stock of Alloy S32760 (SAF32760, UNS S32760) with bar up to 16″ (406.4mm) diameter, plate up to 3″ (76.2mm) thickness, and a variety of pipes and fittings available ex-stock from our warehouses in the UK and USA.
