How has Ferralium developed over the years?

As the knowledge of super duplex stainless steels has increased, so has Langley Alloys ability to fine-tune the manufacture of Ferralium 255. Improvements in control of the composition, reduction of impurities and associated inclusions, plus improved heat treatment and quenching have helped to optimise mechanical properties and corrosion performance.

Ferralium (UNS S32550, 1.4507, F61) is the only super duplex to be guaranteed to achieve 85ksi yield strength, which is an advantage for many applications. In addition, it will also meet a weight loss of <0.8g/m2 in the ASTM G48A corrosion test at 50degC, compared with <4.0g/m2 for other super duplex grades.
