Austenitic stainless steels are non-magnetic, whereas Ferritic, Duplex and Martensitic stainless steels are all magnetic. This is sometimes an important selection criteria; for instance sensors may be influenced if the metal housing could be magnetised; couplings could be harder to separate or tooling harder to use. Fermonic 50 (1.3964, XM19, Nitronic 50) is commonly used for such applications.
