In the production of acid concentrates one of the methods used is known as ‘submerged combustion’ and employs a ‘dip tube’ by which the necessary heat is carried well below the surface of the acid. This dip-tube casting in FERRALIUM 255 will be used to raise the concentration of 30% P2O5 up to about 50%. It weighs 350lb and is 26” long. The bore is 14” and the wall thickness approximately 1”. The flange diameter is 24”.
FERRALIUM 255 (UNS S32550, Alloy 255, DIN 1.4507, ASTM F61) was well chosen because of it well proven high resistance to corrosion in hot phosphoric acid concentrations.
