This casting in FERRALIUM 255 will form a hub of a turbine (agitator) rotor to which blade will be welded onto the stubs shown. The turbine will be used in a reactor vessel in wet-process phosphoric acid production necessary in the manufacture of phosphate fertilizers, and for this reason the choice of cast FERRALIUM 255 for the hub and FERRALIUM 255 plate for the blades has been made because of their high resistance to the corrosive conditions of the process.
The hub casting weighs 119lb and is 13” in diameter. It has been designed to provide maximum rigidity and to ensure that the welds between the blades of 3/8” thick FERRALIUM 255 plate and the hub casting can be made perfectly sound and not subject to excessive fatigue. The complete turbine rotor will be 54” in diameter.
