One of a group of nozzles made of Ferralium 255 super duplex stainless steel which were recently supplied for use in a phosphate fertilizer plant. These nozzles are used in the final stages of acid handling, prior to compounding of the fertilizer.
Ferralium 255 has proved to have excellent resistance to the conditions encountered in making the ‘wet process’ phosphoric acid and to outlast not only standard stainless steel but also high nickel alloys in many cases.
These nozzles indicate the practical versatility of Ferralium 255 (UNS S32550, Alloy 255, DIN 1.4507, ASTM F61), being fabricated from two flanges made as castings, with the nozzle tube rolled up from 1/8” thick rolled plate.
Ferralium 255 can be processed with ease into all types of finished equipment by normal methods.
