CS44 – Ferralium 255 – Fertiliser Production

Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC) Limited  have selected Ferralium 255 for use in their production facility. They are one of the leading fertilizer manufacturing companies in India. Their largest production complex is capable of producing 6,200,000 tonnes/annum of coated urea.

The fertilizer production industry is a key market segment for Langley Alloys given the successful long-term application of Ferralium 255 in various applications. This high-performance alloy provides a number of distinct advantages over alternative alloys, namely:

  • superior corrosion resistance to phosphoric and sulphuric acid
  • high-strength, allowing efficient use in structural applications
  • high wear and abrasion resistance
  • cost-effective alternative to far more expensive super-austenitic or nickel alloys

Langley Alloys were approached to provide profiled plates for the local fabrication of a large-scale off-gas fan impeller – to act as a strategic spare.

The impeller is approximately 2m in diameter, fabricated from plate sections up to 1/2″ (12.7mm) thickness, and is capable of extracting 40,000m3 per hour when in operation. The off-gas can be up to 60degC and contaminated with acids within the moist vapour, as well as particulates, hence the need for Ferralium 255 as the exposed material for the impeller, blades and back plate.

We carry stock of Ferralium 255, Alloy 32750 and Alloy 2205 as plate in a wide variety of thicknesses, which can be processed using our in-house water-jet cutter. This allows the supply of either smaller plates or profiled parts suitable for direct fabrication.
