CS117 – Ferralium 255 – Line Shaft Pumps

Line shaft pumps providing sea water to North Sea oil platforms normally operate at depths of over 100 feet. The drive shafts, of manageable individual lengths, are connected by muff couplings. Since they are permanently submerged and subject to corrosive attack by sea water, the couplings are cast in FERRALIUM 255 (UNS S32550, Alloy 255, DIN 1.4507, ASTM F61) alloy and secured to the FERRALIUM 255 super duplex stainless steel shafts by ‘hot-headed’ bolts of the same material.
