CS110 – Ferralium 255 – Thermoplate Panels

Description:

J.Samuel White & Co. Ltd., of Cowes, Isle of Wight, are well known for the many types of heat exchanger they produce under the trade name of Thermoplate Panels, for all fields of industry where control of process temperature in vital. One of the metallurgical problems in the design and manufacture of heat exchangers is that of stress corrosion, when corrosive liquids are handled. Another problem is that of the higher mechanical strength requirements in the materials used, due to the more stringent safety regulations.

To meet these two problems, J. Samuel White have recently produced heat exchanger panels in FERRALIUM 255 super duplex stainless steel, which combines, amongst other properties those of excellent stress corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength.

Each pair of pressings comprising a panel is cold pressed from 2mm sheet, resistance welded, and the illustration shows a completed Thermoplate panel in FERRALIUM 255 (UNS S32550, Alloy 255, DIN 1.4507, ASTM F61) measuring 24” x 17”. The use of FERRALIUM 255 alloy has still further increased the range of applications of Thermoplate panels, the production of fertilisers being but one example of this extension of usage.
