Ferralium® 255 has been used in a number of different parts in UK-manufactured hovercraft. From the mid-1970’s onwards, it has been the alloy of choice for propellers, propeller nuts and washers and rudders in a vessel operated by the National Maritime Institute. In particular, the fasteners were used to replace Alloy 316 components which had completely corroded after just one year in service, resulting in the loss of one propeller.
