From our case study archives: Shaft and agitator blades of Ferralium® 255 mix sulfuric acid and phosphate rock in the production of phosphoric acid. This extremely corrosive and abrasive application has become a default standard for the application of this super duplex stainless steel alloy. Shafts can utilise solid bars, but more typically are fabricated from plate when large diameters are needed to provide sufficient stiffness over longer lengths. The blades are typically bolted into place on welded fixtures, allowing easy replacement during routine maintenance and ensuring limited downtime.
