Langley Gate Valves (a former division of Langley Alloys) supplied gate valves up to 16” in diameter to a UK salt works, where it was exposed to a 25% solution of saturated brine at up to 150degC. Ferralium® 255 was selected instead of Alloy 316 due to its superior stress corrosion resistance under these critical conditions.
Ferralium® 255 is also used by valve manufacturers for valve trim, seats, spindles and bolting. It has also been successfully utilised for the manufacture of stub shafts in large butterfly valves handling seawater and brackish water, exploiting the increased strength levels as well as corrosion resistance.
