What is 2.4375?

2.4375 is the Werkstoff number for a nickel-based alloy most commonly known as Monel K500. The Werkstoff designation was developed by the German standards body DIN, with the term Werkstoff translating approximately to ‘material’.

Composition & Applications Of 2.4375

Monel K500 is an age-hardened version of the original Monel 400 alloy developed by the Special Metals Corporation. It is a nickel-based alloy with a significant addition of copper. As such, it possesses excellent resistance to marine and chemical corrosion. Additions of aluminium and titanium (3-4% in total) are used to greatly increase the strength of the base alloy, by forming microscopic precipitates, which can be controlled through heat treatment. These precipitates create a significant uplift in mechanical properties – the yield strength can be up to 4x greater, and the tensile strength up to 2x greater than Monel 400.

2.4375 and Monel K500 can also be referred to as Alloy K500. Its increased strength means that it can be used effectively in more challenging components, such as marine shafts, valve stems, fasteners, mixer and agitator shafts and doctor blades, drill collars and heat exchanger components.
