What are bronzes?

Bronzes are copper-based alloys typically with additions of tin, aluminium and silicon. For instance the most traditional bronze would be an alloy of just copper and tin. However, there are families of manganese bronzes, phosphor bronzes, nickel aluminium bronzes (NAB) and aluminium bronzes featuring the named metal as the main alloying addition to copper.

Langley Alloys range of copper-nickel alloys, such as Hiduron 130 (DTD498/4805, 2.1504) and Hiduron 191 (DEFSTAN 02-835, NES 835), are often referred to as bronzes, although the main addition to copper in this instance is nickel.
