Description:

Ferralium 255

Ferralium® 255 studs and nuts were selected for anchoring the ‘Christchurch Bay Tower Project’ in 1975 under the direction of the National Maritime Institute. They were set in concrete and remained in the sea for 10 months, after which no signs of corrosion were visible.

Ferralium® 255 has been widely adopted as a bolting material for seawater applications in connection with North Sea oil. Typical applications include hot headed bolts for both shaft couplings and column pipes on lineshaft pumps. In view of corrosion problems associated with Alloy 316 and plated steel bolts, the use of Ferralium® 255 bolts has expanded. It has been specified for large diameter bolts, up to 4ft long, for naval applications instead of chromium plated carbon steel.
