This paper further develops a novel technique to explore the pitting behaviour of alloys in saltwater. It allows the creation and development of surface pitting to be observed during a rapid testing and evaluation technique. Ferralium® 255 was used as the benchmark alloy for this development. Pitting initiation was observed at temperatures well above the normally quoted ‘Critical Pitting Temperature’.
